Sunday June 14--Brought To You By Eukanuba

First & Second Series

The first and second series of the 2009 NARC was set up on the land across Highway 7 from the M.I.R.R.C. Clubhouse. The first series is a land double. The second series is a single land blind. The first series test has a flyer on the left and shot to the right at 115 yds landing in medium grass on a slight slope. The first bird down is also thrown from left to right at 168 yds from a brushy tree where the guns retire, into tulles and heavy marsh cover. The blind is to the left of the right hand bird in front of a small bush at 230 yds. The path to all birds is through a hidden channnel of water. Once the dog picks up the marks, the handler is on their own to run the blind. Hen pheasants are used for the blind and the marks.

Bright sunshine and no wind. First Test dog 7:37 am AFC Flatland's Fannie Brice, CF. She had a small hunt on the right hand bird, completed the marks in five minutes and she returned with the blind in two minutes and did a nice job.

Second Test Dog 7:46 am Lake Countrys Sunshine, LM. He did a nice job job in four minutes, with a nice two minute blind. The first fifteen handlers viewed the test from the line and then went to get their dogs.

8:00 am First Dog #87 FC-AFC CHIPPEWA WILSON, Handler Barbara Furlano. She did a good job! The test is progressing well and most dogs are doing a nice job. It's 8:55 and we've seen 9 dogs run. As of the gun change at 9:30, there has only been one handle, dog #100 on the right hand bird.

Update for the First & Second Series:
We have turned the corner and are running dog # 1. There have been so far 5 handles total: #100, #112, #114, #115, and #117 all on the right hand retired bird. The wind has switched 360 degrees...more later.

To recap the hot afternoon's events: There have been 10 handles total with two pick-ups. The handles were: #100, #112, #114, #115, #117, #7, #9, #10, #14, and #16. (#10 and #14 were pick-ups) There have been six or so no birds and because of this, it will be a real challenge to complete the first two series tonight. We're running low on power, but we'll keep you posted as best we can!

Back Online!

The final post for today has a handle for dog #64 and #65. We've wrapped up for the day at 8:10 pm concluding with dog #73 which leaves 13 dogs left. The test dog will run at 6:45 am and at 7 am, dog #74 will be the first running dog. At 8 am the handlers should arrive for the 3rd Series water blind in the same area to be ready to go as soon as the callbacks are given.
