Tuesday June 16--Brought To You By Tritronics

Fourth Series Land/Water Triple with an Honor

Due to technical difficulties, we're getting this report up a little later usual.

This fourth test is a land/water triple. It is situated in the “Horse Pasture” field. A cool breeze is blowing lightly from right to left. The order is left—middle—right and the birds are all hen mallard ducks.

The line is on a rise and the dogs go down through tall grasses, then shrubs, and through heavy marsh going to all three birds. On the left, the short retired duck is thrown to the left along the bank across narrow water. The distance is 165 yards. This station retires behind a tall pine tree. The long middle gun throws to the left in the hip pocket of the shorter gun. The distance for this bird is 260 yards. Then, on the right, the flyer guns shoot a duck to the right on a grassy incline. The honor mat is to the left of the running mat.

Both of the test dogs had some difficulties. Fannie was the first to run and she had a long hunt on the left hand bird and ended up with handles on both retired birds. The time for this first run was about twelve minutes. She picked it up short and then long. Sunny got the long middle bird second and then ended up handling from deep of the short bird to recover it.

The wind keeps switching, the first dog to run #25 did a nice job, but the wind changes the test and has made it harder for some dogs. It looks like this series will be in the judges’ favor. We have had four handles and one pick-up. And we’ve had a handle on every bird, including the flyer. We’re keeping an eye on the weather and we’ve been hearing rumbling thunder in the distance—we’ll keep connected as long as we can. More later…

The bad weather is showing up uninvited. The dog work is getting more tricky, with five handles: #58, #59, #60, #55 and #62 who broke on the honor. Here’s some photos of the day to give you an idea of the event!

Some Snaps of the Day!

Many more handles since the last update: #68, #75, #78, #83, #84, #86, #88, #89, #91, #93, #98, #113, #116, #119. The wind is calmer now. The rain has ended and it’s a little cooler. The Fifth Series will be at Gary McIlwain’s property and is rumored to be a land quad, with the Test Dog running at 7:30 am.

Callbacks for the fifth are:
1, 2, 3, 5, 15, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 33, 34, 35, 37, 41, 42, 43, 48, 49, 50, 51, 53, 54, 57, 59, 63, 67, 68, 71, 72, 73, 74, 76, 80, 81, 85, 90, 92, 95, 96, 97, 99, 101, 102, 103, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 113, 117, 118, 120.
